5 Helpful End of Life Apps

End of Life is a fact of life. For most people, so is the use of smart phones and devices. These free apps available on iTunes can help you discover your ancestry, learn what to say to grieving friends and family, or identify final resting places:

  • Just to Say: Death may make us feel uncomfortable and tongue-tied. Often, we are unsure of what to say to people who are mourning, or say nothing at all. This application helps you find the right words to say to someone coping with the death of a loved one. It lists hundreds of messages organized into categories like sympathy, birthdays, anniversaries, and more.
  • Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors: TAPS is a nonprofit organization that helps veterans with grief. Survivors can access the memorial, death, and burial benefits available to service men and women. TAPS also provides an easy-to-navigate primer on the financial, emotional and practical concerns facing survivors. This application is helpful to someone who is grieving the death of a loved one who served in the military.
  • Ancestry.com: This application allows you to create an account or use Facebook to access, track and share information about your family history. More than 11 billion historical records, including photographs and documents provide access to existing family trees. Ancestry.com also allows you to expand available birth, marriage and death records.
  • iWish: Do you wish you could turn dreams into action before the end of your life? iWish bucket list allows you to dream, plan and share lifetime goals. It offers hundreds of ideas, suggestions and motivational quotes. iWish works like a visual bucket list, allowing you to add goals and check them off as you accomplish them. You can automatically sync between devices and mark the locations of your goals on a world map.
  • ANC Explorer: More than 400,000 military men and women have been laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia since the American Revolution. This application helps you to navigate ANC’s website to locate gravesites, columbaria/niche locations and other points of interest. When you enter a service member’s name, birth or death date, you get detailed information and directions to a requested marker.
