App of the Week: Scribd

By Amanda Williams, copywriter

Many funeral professionals have asked the Passare team this question: “What apps do you recommend?”

Since there are apps to solve practically every issue under the sun, sometimes that question is tough to answer. One quick stop to the virtual App store or Google Play store will reveal hundreds and thousands of apps, both free and for a fee. There are apps for increasing productivity, expanding your library, and having fun. The thing is, which apps are worth your time and your money?

In this weekly series, I will be describing various apps, websites, and platforms that you can use in your business or on your personal devices. Here’s this week’s app!

Scribd: Read or Listen On the Go

Type of app: Learning and Development

With the tagline “Read without limits,” Scribd has marketed itself as a “read anywhere” app. With Scribd, users can:

  • Listen to audiobooks

  • Read books and magazines

  • Stay up to date with news

In your car, Scribd can certainly make your commute more enjoyable because you can listen hands-free. According to their website, Scribd also has a “commitment to accessibility” so that ALL of their users can enjoy reading, even if they use assistive technology.

Cost and Availability

They promise their users unlimited books, audiobooks, and magazines for a subscription price of $9.99 per month. In comparison, Audible is $14.99 per month for a limited number of books. The app can be downloaded to devices on the Apple store or Google Play store. In the Google Play store, Scribd is an “Editor’s Choice” app and has made the list of “5 best apps for book lovers.”

How You Can Use Scribd in Your Funeral Home

Scribd has millions of titles on the app, so if you wanted, you could host a book club with your staff. Whether you choose to read (or listen to!) customer service titles, business books, or magazines, Scribd is sure to have something of interest to you.

Do you use Scribd or another service for reading? What are some worthwhile titles?

See you next week for another app highlight!
