Staying organized: Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home's success with Passare

Christine Swagerty, Administrative Assistant at Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, has plenty of experience working in disorganized software systems.

Passare isn’t one of them. In fact, her processes are much easier! From its user-friendly software to centralized recordkeeping, Passare is helping this funeral home see great results - even with their trade cases!

How would you describe your overall experience using Passare?

My overall experience has been good. I started working at the funeral home around the same time Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home started using Passare. I had never worked in the funeral business before starting here a year and a half ago. Everything felt brand-new to me – the software, the industry, all of it.

Before starting my position here, I used to work in the office at a car dealership and was primarily in charge of accounting. Car dealership systems are a nightmare because you work with a lot of information. Every detail about each transaction and important information about each car is crammed into one tiny system that isn’t built to support that data. It was always really challenging to navigate.

What differences have you seen between those systems and Passare?

Passare has been a breath of fresh air because it’s way more user-friendly than the systems I am used to working with! The software makes sense and functions the way you would expect it to.

Have you had any experience using the mobile app?

Yes, I use the mobile beta app. The software is user-friendly, and that trait carries over to mobile. Even though my role focuses a lot more on administrative tasks, I can still use the app.

We have a trade business, and I can use mobile for trade cases. I can create a case or notify staff about case changes all without ever having to sit at a computer, make a phone call, or send a text.

It’s been convenient if I am ever away from the office and need to do some work or check on cases.

What's been your favorite feature in Passare?

Recordkeeping is easily my favorite thing. It is so easy to use.

Before Passare, everything was on separate systems. Storing information in different systems makes things complicated and hard to access. It takes double, maybe triple, the time to make sure all of your information updates on every platform.

With Passare’s recordkeeping, everything I need is in one centralized spot. I never have to track down who made which payments and when that payment was made.

Another great thing about recordkeeping is that we can easily move financial data from our cases to our accounting software. I do not have to waste time rekeying information. There’s a lot less room for error that way, too.

You mentioned that your funeral home has a trade business. How does recordkeeping help you with that?

When I first started in the funeral profession, that part of the business was really overwhelming. We handled five or six trade cases a day, and there was a lot to keep track of.

Recordkeeping for the trade business is a lot easier in Passare. It has helped us stay organized in our trade cases. I can take payments, write checks, and see bank balances all from Passare. Now, I can put everything in its own file and mark payments as they come through, and an invoice is automatically created. It’s much easier to track what’s paid for and what’s not.

Do you have any favorite integrations?

We recently integrated with Tukios for a website, and it’s been awesome so far. It has already been a lot more user-friendly than our previous website provider.

We love how obituaries, scheduled events, pictures, charities, and all that information goes straight from Passare to Tukios. The integration has saved us a lot of time.

How has your experience been with Support?

Passare Support has always been there to help, and they provide solutions quickly when I need help.

In the beginning, they put together a lot of hands-on training, which was great. Several training sessions walked me through everything step by step. If I still had questions, we would add additional training time to make me feel more confident.

The whole onboarding process was really positive. Support worked with me through every tutorial and question I had. Everyone was always willing to help and make sure I felt good about how Passare works.

Would you recommend Passare to a colleague? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend Passare. In fact, we are trying to get our funeral director’s brother signed on to use it. I think he would love it because he currently uses 4 or 5 different programs to keep track of his information. He’s getting frustrated with how disorganized and chaotic his current methods are.

He needs to use Passare because you have one platform that keeps track of everything. Anyone would love that.
